The Power of Networking: How to Build Meaningful Connections

Power of Networking

Networking is a crucial tool for success in business and investing. Whether you’re looking to grow your portfolio, raise private capital, or simply open new doors, the relationships you build can make all the difference.

For me, networking was never something that came naturally. As an introvert, it felt intimidating at times—especially early on in my journey. I had to learn how to push myself outside my comfort zone and intentionally work at it, step by step. Through dedication and consistent effort, I built a strong network of mentors, investors, and business partners who have been crucial in helping me reach financial freedom.

If you’re struggling with networking or unsure where to start, this structured approach will help you create meaningful relationships that lead to long-term success.

1. Shift Your Mindset: Be Authentic and Give First

Networking isn’t about transactions—it’s about relationships. Too often, people approach networking with a “what can I get?” mentality. Instead, focus on what you can offer.

Authenticity is key. Don’t go into conversations trying to get money or close a deal. Instead, prioritize building genuine relationships. By shifting the focus to giving instead of taking, you create trust and credibility. Over time, this approach leads to opportunities you may not have expected.

2. The 3×5 Networking Plan: Structure Your Networking

To stay consistent and intentional about networking, use a 3×5 Plan. This method ensures you’re connecting with the right people on a daily, weekly, and monthly basis:

1 – Daily Networking: Engage with five key groups or individuals:

  1. Family & Close Relationships – A strong personal foundation leads to professional success. Prioritize meaningful interactions with those who support you.
  2. Leadership Team – If you own a business, communicate daily with key team members to stay aligned.
  3. Staff & Virtual Assistants – Regular check-ins with those who support your business operations keep everything running smoothly.
  4. Influencers You Support – Engage with those whose platforms and content align with your mission.
  5. Influencers Who Support You – Strengthen ties with those who help expand your reach and business.

2 – Weekly Networking: Prioritize five key interactions:

  1. Extended Family & Friends – Stay connected with loved ones for long-term grounding and support.
  2. Business Coach/Consultant – Work with someone who helps refine your strategies and growth plan.
  3. Sales Consultant – A specialist can guide you in increasing revenue and closing deals.
  4. Trainer or Mentor – Whether it’s a personal trainer, mindset coach, or spiritual guide, maintaining focus is essential.
  5. Thought Leader – Follow and learn from top experts in your field through books, podcasts, or direct mentorship.

3 – Monthly Networking: Expand your network strategically:

  1. Clients & Investors – Maintain relationships with those who support your business and investments.
  2. CFO or Financial Advisor – Regular financial reviews keep your strategy on track.
  3. Business Peers – Stay connected with colleagues and competitors to share insights and opportunities.
  4. Community Engagement – Participate in local events and organizations to strengthen your network.
  5. Industry Events – Conferences, meetups, or mastermind groups help expand your circle.

By maintaining this structured approach, networking becomes a natural and effective part of your routine.

3. Leverage the Power of Social Media

In today’s digital world, networking isn’t just about attending events. Social media has made it easier than ever to connect with like-minded professionals.

Engage on platforms like LinkedIn, Facebook groups, and real estate forums. You don’t have to be the loudest voice in the room—just contribute value, ask questions, and build relationships organically.

4. Start Conversations by Listening

A common fear I hear from people about networking is not knowing what to say. My advice? Let others do most of the talking.

People love to share their stories. Ask simple questions like, “How did you get started in real estate?” or “What’s a great book you’ve read recently?” Then, just listen. Networking doesn’t always have to start with business talk. Sometimes it can be about something as simple as baseball, family, or shared interests. These conversations can open doors in unexpected ways.

Focus on building a real connection and allowing relationships to grow naturally over time. By being genuine and letting others talk about what matters to them, you’ll find that trust and collaboration develop without you having to push for it.

5. Build Relationships Before You Need Them

One of the biggest mistakes people make is waiting until they need something to start networking. Instead, build connections without any immediate agenda.

For example, attending an event and having a conversation about common interests—without expecting anything in return—can lead to valuable business partnerships down the road. Networking isn’t about instant results; it’s about planting seeds that will grow over time.

6. Use Networking to Find Private Lenders

For real estate investors, finding funding is crucial. I’ve built relationships with private lenders—many of whom weren’t even professional investors, but rather financial advisors or people I met through my existing network.

Networking opened the door to private lenders who believed in my vision and work ethic. It was through consistent, genuine conversations that I built the trust needed for these relationships to turn into fruitful partnerships. Talk to people, share your vision, and let them see your integrity and work ethic. By networking consistently, you can create win-win partnerships that fuel long-term investment growth.

Final Thoughts: Just Do It

If networking still feels intimidating, I get it. My advice is simple: just do it. It’s like any skill—it gets easier with practice.

With today’s technology, there’s no excuse not to network. Use social media, attend virtual events, send messages—just put yourself out there. The relationships you build today could change your future.

Networking is more than just a skill—it’s a mindset. By being authentic, consistent, and focused on giving value, you’ll find that the right opportunities will come your way.
