Teachers Union President Love Affair with Biden’s Student Loan Relief

Randi Weingarten is the president of the American Federation of Teachers, one of the largest teacher unions in the United States. She has been an advocate for student loan relief and has argued that it is essential to address the student debt crisis, which has become a significant burden on millions of Americans.

What she fails to point out are the numerous moral hazards: If people believe that their loans will be forgiven in the future, they may be more likely to take out larger loans or pursue more expensive degrees, which could lead to a further increase in student debt.

What about the skyrocketing economic costs to student loan relief: Forgiving student loans would cost the government a significant amount of money, which could be used for other programs, such as infrastructure improvements, healthcare, or education.
